Are you tired of feeding the monster?

Today we are going to have an honest conversation about your life! The life that you have spent so many years building, maintaining, sacrificing, and paying for. Although you have dreamed and worked so hard to have this life, is any part of it keeping you living in a prison?

Is there a monster in your life that you keep feeding?

A few years ago, I was teaching my popular workshop called Clearing the Clutter. I was referring to clutter as an "energy drainer," and I had asked the audience for an example of their energy drainers. At which time, a gentleman, whom I will call Jack, shared that for nearly 30 years, he lived in a 4000-square foot home where he and his wife raised their family.

It was a beautiful waterfront home filled with lots of wonderful memories. However, it was packed with THINGS. Lots of things and a hefty tax bill that had quadrupled over the years. The kids were now all grown up and living independent lives and rarely came to visit. Both he and his wife worked very hard to maintain this lifestyle. But it wasn't until he had a heart attack and his wife had a cancer scare that they found the courage to initiate change.

They came to realize that they were living to FEED THE MONSTER, and they felt trapped.

So, they decided to sell this home and everything in it. From lawn mowers to linens. Artwork to the silverware. They got rid of every nick-nack, piece of furniture, pot, and pan. They took the money, purchased an abandoned historic building in a nearby city, renovated six apartments, and kept one for themselves.

Their children were very upset at first, watching all their childhood memories abandoned and discarded. They couldn't imagine their parents in this 1400-square-foot apartment, living this minimalist lifestyle complete with white walls and sleek, streamlined furniture. But soon, their judgment turned into appreciation as the kids started to come to visit frequently!

They began to understand the energy of simplicity and crave the calm and spaciousness their parents consciously created. They especially loved the newfound freedom their parents discovered and the travel and adventures they now had time to take. Jack described his new life as Energy Filling vs. Energy Draining.

Do you have a monster in your life that you feel tethered to or imprisoned by? Your home, maybe a job, relationship, or lifestyle.

On the outside, it all looks so great, but intuitively it is draining you, depleting your energy, balance, and joy. Despite the opinions of others, you know it's slowly killing you, and something needs to change.

I invite you to consider these few questions?

  • What is the possible life you could have without it?

  • Who could you be without the weight of that in your life?

  • What keeps you from initiating change?

  • Do you commonly wait before a crisis or a forced event before taking action?

Yes, change can be difficult but so is living in the prison! My friends, it begins with identifying your feelings first, then speaking your truth!

(You can identify all the challenging feelings using my free "Feelings List" on my website)

I am convinced that the universe, life, is asking us all to examine our existence and create lives where we live in integrity.

In other words, to establish a coherence or congruency between what we think, what we feel, and the actions we take. The universe is offering us uncertainty, and by doing so, it is forcing us to stop doing things the same way and beckoning us to change something

Can you allow yourself to ask the hard questions and stop long enough to listen for the answers?
