How satisfied are you with your sense of purpose?

Here we go! Over the next 8-weeks, we will dive into your life and take an inventory of where you are. We are going to hover over your life as if in a helicopter and notice what the landscape looks like. We'll note the nice green lush areas as well as areas that look a little brown, parched, and ignored.

You must first be right where your feet are today in order to move anywhere else.

If you haven't yet, please print out the Life Balance Wheel here so you can join me on this journey. Throughout the next 8-weeks I will be taking you around the wheel, offering thought-provoking questions as a way to measure your satisfaction with each important aspect of your life, perhaps in ways in which you have never considered thinking about before.

I promise that with this information and the guidance I offer, I will provide you with a better idea, clarity, and the next right step to bring more happiness, satisfaction, and balance into your life.

So, let's get started.

First, know that the center of the wheel represents "0" or the least amount of satisfaction. The outside of the wheel represents "10" the most satisfaction.

If you look at the example at the bottom right-hand corner, that person seems happy with their health, friends/family, and physical environment. Not so satisfied with a significant other, fun and money aspect of their life.

We will begin with your sense of purpose, which could also be defined as your career. But really purpose, in this respect, represents where you spend the majority of your day.

It could be a job that you get paid for or not. It could be that right now; your purpose is raising your family, caring for an aging parent, volunteering, or maintaining your home. For some, it's a combination of the aforementioned. If so, I suggest drawing a line or two making smaller pie shapes. It is important to get as much clarity as you can.

Here are the questions:

  • Does this job or purpose bring you a sense of joy or fulfillment?

  • Does this aspect of your life stimulate you?

  • Do you wake up in the morning and say, "today, I get to do this thing" or not?

  • Do you feel as though you make a difference?

  • Do you like the people you work with or serve?

  • Do you like the environment you are in?

Again, a 2 would be closer to the circle's center, whereas an 8 is closer to the outside.

Now, if you want more clarity on the sidebar, make a note of that job and articulate what you enjoy the most and that part you like the least. You may want to give each aspect its own number.

For example, some people say that they love doing the problem-solving or creative aspect of their job and dislike the management or bureaucracy in their work.

Right now, it's just about taking the inventory. I promise after 8-weeks, you will have a much clearer view of the entire picture, so no need to take action quite yet!

In the meantime, feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

Next week it's all about the money!
